Five years ago today Jay and I were married!! Where did five years go?!?! I can't believe that we have been married for five years and known each other for seven. This whole day I have been thinking back to when we met and how things fell into place for us.
I was never a girl that dated growing up. I was always taller and bigger than the boys growing up and nothing ever clicked for me. I liked boys and had many crushes but it just wasn't in the cards for me as a young lady. Well I take that back. I did have a boyfriend for like a week my Sophomore year in high school. His name was PJ and he was very nice. But he had big lips and I had a dream that he gave me a kiss and swallowed my head. I know...I'm strange. Needless to say I never kissed PJ and after a week of him walking me to class we called it quits!
But this is about Jay and I...so let's get on with it. In the spring of my first year of teaching I realized that I really wasn't meeting any guys. I went out with friends and attended church each week but I wasn't meeting anyone. So I turned to online dating. It was a little expensive, but I was excited at the prospect of meeting someone...finally!! I joined E-Harmony and met some nice guys. Some were strange (one asked when I could move to Montana?!?!) and others were mean (one stopped talking to me as soon as I sent him a picture). Summer hit and I really couldn't afford the expense of the dating service. I planned to cancel at the end of June 2005. The last guy that E-Harmony introduced me to was a guy named Jay. The date was June 7th. He looked tall in the picture and was holding his friend's daughter (he liked kids!!) and had a nice smile. "OK...this Jay is the last person I'm going to start talking to and then I'm done." I promised myself. The first few communications we had with each other were through the website, mainly just asking and answering questions about each other. He was funny and seemed like a pretty good guy. In our last e-mail through the website he asked if he could call me sometime so we could talk over the phone. I gave him my number and we started talking on the phone. Those were some of the best conversations we've ever had. We talked for hours sometimes about everything under the sun! We also started e-mailing back and forth. (I still have all those e-mails we sent to each other!) It was great! However, I was traveling a lot that summer and getting ready to leave for two weeks solid. So we continued to talk on the phone while I was gone. I was visiting my friend Beth in Florida and gushed all about Jay as soon as I saw her. I told her that he still hadn't seen a picture of me (scared from how the other guy reacted!) and she took a picture of me and made me send it right away! I'll always be thankful to Beth for making me do that...because Jay told me it was nice to put a pretty face to the pretty voice he had gotten to know!! We made plans to have our first date (my REAL first date) when I got back.
June 25th came and I was seeing Phantom of the Opera that day with my friend Sarah. I showed up at her house with a change of clothes and spilled about my date that night. My mom was glad that I told a friend where I was going to be and with who, she was worried about me meeting someone I had met online, never met in person and by myself at that. Thanks for caring and loving me mom!! :) I loved the musical but it was hard to concentrate because I was nervous. I changed and drove to Tagliani's in the Arrowhead area later that night and there was Jay waiting for me outside. I parked, walked up and we gave each other a hug hello. We had a great dinner and talked about so much that night! It was wonderful! We decided to head over to the movie theater after and catch Batman Begins (I LOVE Christian Bale!! Which he still teases me about to this day!) We shared some popcorn but our hands never touched! Darn!! And I kept my hand out just in case he wanted to hold it. He didn't though and I got a little afraid that I was more into us than he was. He later told me that he wanted to, but wanted to be a gentleman and not scare me too! He did take my hand as we walked to our cars and then gave me my first kiss ever!! I was over the moon and couldn't wait for our next date. The rest of the summer we started spending more and more time together and the rest is history.
Because our beginning was in June it seemed fitting to make our wedding date that month too. Jay proposed to me on the one year anniversary of our first date, June 25th...a date we still keep on the calendar! We started talking about dates for a wedding and both June 7th (the day we met online) and June 25th were in the middle of the week in the year 2007. So we settled on June 9th and were content! It's been a great five years. We've had those hills and valleys that so many told us we would have. We've grown together and really learned how to live and balance our lives together. We've worked out dealing with family and friends and trying to start our own family. Even though we've been trying to start our family for five years as well (in September) I feel so blessed that we had these years together, just us. We have made some great memories and taken some awesome trips... our honeymoon Caribbean cruise, a post wedding trip to Ohio, our Alaskan cruise, our very magical Disney World trip last year, our Thanksgiving in Disneyland last year and our many Vegas adventures we've had as well (Pictures down below!!)! I love my husband with all my heart and I come to love him more and more with each passing day. He truly is my best friend and soul mate. I trust him like no one else and I know that no matter what he will always be there for me! When I think back to five years ago today I always get butterflies in my stomach and think of our song...From This Moment by Shania Twain:
I do swear that I'll always be there.
I'd give anything and everything and I will always care.
Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow,
for better for worse, I will love you with
every beat of my heart.
From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on
From this moment I have been blessed
I live only for your happiness
And for your love I'd give my last breath
From this moment on
I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment on
You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment
I will love you as long as I live
From this moment on
I'd give anything and everything and I will always care.
Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow,
for better for worse, I will love you with
every beat of my heart.
